“I get a lot of energy from my assistants, from variety, from change: the variety of each project is what makes me grow…’ Perhaps unusually for a child growing up in rural Normandy, Raphael Salley knew he’d be a hair stylist from the start. He trained formally at school in Rouen, while working at two élite hair salons at the weekends. His time with Eric Bachelet and Monsieur Velasquez- a haute coiffure stylist - introduced him to the world of hair styling at its very highest echelons. From there, Raphael moved to London in September 1995, at Michaeljohn in Mayfair, while also assisting Eugene Souleyman on catwalk shows in Paris, London, New York and Milan. Taking a few years to craft his own style, Raphael has become one of the industry’s most sought-after stylists, shooting with every important title globally: from American, British, French and Italian Vogue to Another, Dazed, Harper’s BAZAAR, Violet, 10 and Pop. His stunning editorial work attracted the notice of the film industry early on - and he has worked with a roll call of directors, actors, models and musicians at the very top of their game- styling some of the most iconic looks and films of our time. Raphael’s musical clients include Björk, Nick Cave, Ellie Goulding, Justin Hawkins, Dua Lipa, Sharleen Spiteri and Taylor Swift; and he works with public figures including Greta Bellamacina, Susie Cave, Helena Bonham Carter, Liz Hurley, Jemima Khan, Lesley Manville, Sienna Miller, Kate Moss, Saoirse Ronan, Claudia Schiffer, Sophie Turner and Catherine Zeta Jones.
